I AM.....

One of the most powerful sentences you can ever say starts with 'I am...'

It is what you put after those words that shape your life.

Too often, and too causually, in the past when I was having a conversation with someone, I would hear words come out of my own mouth like 'oh I am so unlucky, I am so broke, I am knackered, I am sick of this, I am such an idiot....' and those words painted a picture of who I thought I was. I continued to shape my reality with words like that and attracted situations that made me unhappy as a result. If you are speaking negatively about yourself and about your life, then that is exactly what will continue to appear.

As I have mentioned a billion times, I suffered anxiety pretty badly in 2016. I felt like every day for a period of 3-6 months it was spiraling out of control, no matter what I did, I couldn't seem to calm down and it felt like I was living on adrenaline and waiting for something bad to happen. It happened as a combination of stress, bad health and not enough self love.
During that time I wasn't kind to myself and I felt like I was failing in every aspect of my life, so that's what I told myself over and over again.

When I was diagnosed with cancer, it (weirdly) gave me a chance to breathe again. I wasn't waiting for something bad to happen anymore. I had to completely change my outlook on everything in order to be as strong as possible and fight cancer.

I went into fight mode but I also started on a journey of self love (I realise as I'm writing this that it sounds sooo corny, but I gotta tell you, self love really is the key to finding happiness).

That's when I started using affirmations. To change my internal beliefs about myself. It can sound a bit silly at first, especially if you say them out loud! But slowly but I started to feel them work.

When I would go to scary appointments at hospital, like the biopsy (you know the one where they used a broken machine with a trainee Doctor, sticking a giant needle into my tit. Forgetting to mention they injected me with local anesthetic and adrenaline, and I began to have a massive panic attack, and they thought I was having an allergic reaction..) During fun times like that I'd recite mantras in my head, my favourite was 'I am healthy, I am strong, I am lucky, I am grateful' and it was even my screensaver on my phone for about a year.

It may sound crazy but if you've ever found yourself in a situation whee you have no choice but to be hopeful, things like this can make a huge difference.

I remember when I was lying on the operating table, terrified of having a general anesthetic for the first time in my life, I repeated the same mantra in my head whilst I was put to sleep.

You don't need to be in this kind of state to use affirmations. They are great for boosting self confidence, learning self love, easing anxiety and even for motivation.

These are affirmations I use daily to help enhance my life and now, I hope that you will hang this print to remind yourself of how wonderful you are, how worthy you are of amazing things.
